So after having a wonderful time with what seemed to be the best time of our life, it was time to get back to the uncertainty that was our reality. We realized after arriving home that we were in for a world of chaos more than we already were.
So back from our trip we had to get more things squared away and at a loss of what to do. We had gone to our regular hospital for treatment to find out there wasn't anymore they could offer. This was not something that we were ever ready to hear!
We decided to take things into our own hands! We reached out to every facility that we could find information for to get second opinions, treatments, trials, or anything else that we thought would help.
We got in contact with the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to take a look at Kiel. We went there to discuss options and things that we could do but sadly, they did not have a lot of options for us.
After our attempt there we decided to visit Sloan Memorial Hospital in New York City. They were really great with Kiel and had a couple ideas that might help. We were able to get the treatment that they suggested back at our local children's hospital since the drive to Sloan was really far for us.
After yet another failed attempt at treatment, we looked some more! We then got ahold of Dr. Anderson at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He was very compassionate and concerned about the state that Kiel was in. He immediately got him some medications and a treatment plan. He had an idea of some medicines that would hopefully help prolong his life. We traveled a few times here for treatment but a lass they did not continue to work either.
So onto the next option, which was Dana Farber in Boston Massachusetts. This was an extremely long trip for us but worth every minute. We had a wonderful doctor who thought outside the box which Kiel needed. We decided to put Kiel on a clinical trial that they had available.
We traveled so far to so many places to make sure that we could do everything physically possible to help our baby beat this monster.
