So now here we are, the world after a cancer diagnosis.
While Kiel was in the recovery room and the doctor was filling us in. He told us that Kiel had to have a central port placed to receive his treatments. He said he had an idea of what type it was but wouldn't be 100% certain till the pathology came back from the lab which could take a little bit of time.
Only a couple days later we were back in hospital to discuss the results and treatment options. The oncologist then told us it was called Rhabdomyosarcoma. A rare soft tissue cancer in kids. The pathology came back and they told us it was Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. Not a favorable cancer to try to treat but they were still optimistic. His cancer was localized to just the tumor and had not spread yet.
We acted fast and got him on the regimen they recommended right away! He had treatment which had a lot of rough days but some good. Kiel loved superheros, particularly Iron Man. He had a hard time getting used to his port till we decided to call it his Iron Man heart like Tony Stark, and that gave him powers! He then was able to help us get him used to it more. In February,

they decided his tumor shrunk enough to remove it!!! It was great news, the treatment was working! The surgeon removed the tumor but told us that he could not get clear margins all the way around because of the location. But they said not to worry because we are going to continue chemotherapy and radiate the area and that should take care of it! The next few months would be filled with doctor appointments, hospitals, treatments, chemotherapy, radiation, more surgeries, and solitude.
He had treatment till August 2015 and things were looking great! He felt great, looked great, and the doctors were beyond excited with how he did! They finished his treatment and told us see you in a month for a follow up scan and post chemotherapy scan. Life was great! Kiel was doing great!
